The $1,000 donation from IAFF Local 521 will purchase fire prevention public education supplies such as pencils, stickers, etc. that contain a fire safety message and will be handed out to children during fire prevention week activities (October 9-17, 2012) and throughout the year during public education events.  City policy requires that any donation exceeding $500 must be accepted by the Council before the funds can be expended. 

The City Council may accept or reject the donation. 

The Billings Fire Department budgets $4,000 per year for fire prevention education, so the $1,000 donation is a 25% increase in the available budget.

Staff recommends acceptance of the $1,000 donation from IAFF Local 521 for the purchase of fire prevention public education supplies.
