PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
On February 13, 2012, City Council authorized the Billings Police Department (BPD) to apply for the STOP Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Grant. The Grant was awarded to the BPD in the amount of $77,560. The goals of the VAWA grant are to provide funding for overtime and supplies related to fulfilling the need for more intense investigation in domestic violence cases. The grant pays for overtime and supplies for the officers involved in these details.
The BPD was notified that the State of Montana Board of Crime Control (MBCC) was also awarding $5,501.20 in reverted funds that will be added to the existing grant. Theses funds will be used toward additional overtime details. Therefore, staff is requesting that Council approve accepting these funds from the MBCC.

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may:
- Accept the additional MBCC reverted funds of $5,501.20; or
- Not accept the additional MBCC reverted funds of $5,501.20; which would result in eliminating extra duty for domestic violence related cases.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The reverted funds require a personnel match of $1,834 which has already been filled through the full-time domestic violence investigator position.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends City Council approve and accept the additional MBCC funds in the amount of $5,501.20.
