PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
United Way of Yellowstone County has awarded the Billings Police Department (BPD) a grant for Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) in the amount of $11,549. The goal of the EUDL grant is to enforce underage drinking laws through patrol, alcohol retail sale trainings, reverse stings and compliance checks. The grant will fund overtime for the officers involved in these details. The BPD will have until September 30, 2014, to expend the funds awarded.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may:
- Accept the EUDL Grant of $11,549.00; or
- Not accept the EUDL Grant of $11,549.00; which would result in eliminating extra duty for patrol, alcohol retail sale trainings, reverse stings and compliance checks.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact to the City as there is no City match required for this grant.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve and accept the United Way grant for EUDL in the amount of $11,549.00.
