PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Water Treatment Plant property and adjacent Utilities Service Center property for the Public Works Department is located along the Yellowstone River. In recent years the river has migrated and continues to migrate to the west, eroding this property. As a result, placement of stone rip-rap is required to protect the bank and the City’s property. Two costs were received to provide and place 170 linear feet of rip rap along the river. Donnes Construction submitted the lowest cost for this work.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
Without the placement of the rip rap on the bank of the Yellowstone River the river will continue to erode the bank into the Water Treatment Plant property. As a result, placing the rip rap must be completed.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The following costs were solicited, received and evaluated for this work:
Firm Cost per Ton Total Cost for 1,800 tons
Donnes Construction $40.00/ton $72,000.00
Land Supply Inc. $47.50/ton* $85,500.00
Note: The cost from Land Supply Inc. only included supplying the rip rap and did not include placement of the rip rap.
Water revenue funds are used for this project.
