PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Solid Waste Division FY 2015 budget includes funds to purchase a brush loader truck . The brush loader allows the Solid Waste Division staff the ability to pick up brush and other large objects with this unit instead of the employees picking them up by hand. The approved Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP) for FY 2015 included a rear load garbage truck. This brush loader truck will be substituted for the rear load garbage truck in the ERP. The ERP committee members agree with this change. Staff advertised for sealed bids on April 16, and April 23, 2015, with a bid opening on April 28, 2015. The City received one bid for this unit.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The Council may:
- Approve the staff recommendation to purchase the unit; or
- Not approve the staff recommendation and reject the bid. If the bid is rejected, the unit will not be purchased and employees will continue manually loading brush and other heavy objects.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Solid Waste Division's FY 2015 budget includes adequate funds to purchase the vehicle. The City received one bid from Solid Waste Systems as shown below. The bid advertisement allowed the vendor to bid a new or used truck with a full 5 year warranty. The unit bid is used with 200 hours and includes the warranty.

Staff recommends awarding the bid to Solid Waste Systems for $146,832.73 for a new brush loader truck.
