PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
A Billings Police Department member of the federal drug task force is involved in an international investigation involving narcotics and money laundering. Per Administrative Order No. 113, all travel outside the continental limits of the United States and Canada must be reviewed and approved by the City Council. The Police Department endorses this travel as it is necessary for successful prosecution of this case.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may:
- Approve Task Force Officer's travel or;
- Not approve the Task Force Officer's travel, which would hinder prosecution.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There will not be a financial impact to the City because the FBI will pay all travel costs.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the Task Force Officer's travel.
