PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The International Association of Fire Fighters (I.A.F.F.), Local 521, will donate $750 to purchase fire prevention education supplies in the form of wristbands for children that contain the fire safety message 'STAY LOW IN SMOKE - CRAWL OUT'. These wristbands will be handed out to children during fire prevention week activities (October 4-10, 2015) and throughout the year during public education events. City policy requires that any donation exceeding $500 must be accepted by the Council before the funds can be expended.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may approve or disapprove accepting the donation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Billings Fire Department budget for fire prevention education supplies is limited, so accepting this $750 donation will have a significant and positive impact on the City's ability to get fire safety messages out to children in the community.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends acceptance of this $750 donation from I.A.F.F., Local 521 for the purchase of fire prevention public education wristbands.
