PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Yellowstone County DUI Task Force wishes to donate $9,000 to the Billings Police Department (BPD). $5,000 will go to the Multi-Jurisdictional Alcohol Enforcement Team (MJAET) for funding for event patrols and retailer compliance checks. The MJAET is a team with members from the Billings Police Department, Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office, and MSU-Billings Police. The BPD acts as the administrator for the MJAET Funds. The remaining $4,000 will go to the Billings Police Department to fund special DUI shifts during peak DUI hours.
Council policy requires that any donation greater than $500 must be approved by the City Council. City Council is being asked to accept the $9,000 donation from the Yellowstone County DUI Task Force.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
- Accept the $9,000 donation from the Yellowstone County DUI Task Force; or
- Not accept the $9,000 donation which will result in the Billings Police Department not running the special DUI patrols, event patrols, and compliance checks.
