PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
City election ward boundaries must be adjusted to conform to city limit amendments resulting from annexation of property into the City. The City Council approved the annexation of property owned by McCall Development and the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation (Annexation #16-02) on April 25, 2016. This requires a change in the boundaries of Ward III. Two readings are required for this action. The Council conducted a public hearing and approved the ordinance on first reading on May 9, 2016. The second reading is scheduled for this meeting.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may approve or not approve the ordinance to amend the boundaries of Ward III on second reading.
- Approving the ordinance will modify the boundaries of Ward III to include the property owned by McCall Development and the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch.
- Not approving the ordinance will not modify the boundaries of Ward III and create a problem where property inside the City Limits is not within one of the City Ward Boundaries.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no budget/financial impact from this action.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve this ordinance on second reading, adding recently annexed property to Ward III.
