PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Billings Fire Department has been awarded a grant in the amount of $1,500 from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation to purchase patient lifting equipment. The Billings Fire Department responds to hundreds of medical calls that require lifting or moving patients prior to transport to an area hospital. The Board of Directors of the Town Pump Charitable Foundation approved this grant request to fund the purchase of patient lifting equipment that should minimize injuring the patient and reduce firefighter lifting injuries. City policy is that any donations over $500 must be approved by the City Council.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may approve or disapprove accepting the $1,500 donation from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Accepting this donation allows the City of Billings Fire staff to purchase two of these patient lifting devices which list for $749 each.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the $1,500 donation from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation to purchase new patient lift devices.
