PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Billings Public Library was offered a donation of $13,000 from the Friends of the Billings Library. $4,000 of this donation would be allocated to purchasing twenty child learning tablets. They are pre-loaded with high-quality learning apps and are immediately ready to circulate. The remaining $9,000 would be used to purchase commercial grade outdoor furniture for the courtyard that is adjacent to the Community Room. This would allow the Library to open the courtyard to the public and expand usage of the space for programming.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
↵City Council may:
- Accept the $13,000 donation from the Friends of the Billings Library, or;
- Disapprove the donation
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approving the donation will allow the Library to purchase learning tablets for children and open the courtyard for public use. There is no negative financial impact on the Library or City.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the donation of $13,000 from the Friends of the Billings Library.
