PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Wastewater Treatment Plant uses polymer to aid in dewatering biosolids in the treatment process. Public Works requested bids for this polymer to ensure the best possible price for this product. The subject bid and contract award is for an estimated 78,000 pounds of dry polymer in year one, with the option to renew for up to three years upon mutual agreement. The actual purchase amount may vary from year to year.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may:
- Approve the contract award for the wastewater plant chemical - dry polymer to BASF Corporation; or,
- Disapprove the contract award, reject all bids and provide additional guidance to staff.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There are sufficient funds in the FY17 Chemical Supply Budget to purchase the Wastewater Plant Chemicals - Dry Polymer. Staff advertised for bids on June 16 and June 23, 2016 and received them on June 28, 2016, as follows :

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council award the wastewater plant chemical contract for polymer to BASF Corporation in the amount of $1.493 per pound with the option to renew up to three years upon mutual agreement.
