PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

The purpose of this project is to extend the storm drain main in Hilltop Road from Shamrock Lane towards Bazaar Exchange and install a storm drain main in Aronson Avenue from Nutter Boulevard towards Dixon Street.  Staff requested the services of an engineering firm to provide design and construction administration services for the project, and KLJ was selected through the Request for Proposals (RFP) process.  Other firms considered were DOWL, Sanderson Stewart, Interstate Engineering and Morrison-Maierle.  The contract amount is $338,305.

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

The Council may:
  • Award the Contract for Professional Services to KLJ; or
  • Do not award the contract.  If the contract is not awarded, the installation of storm drain infrastructure on Hilltop Road and Aronson Avenue will be delayed.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The funding for the design is provided by Storm Drain Funds and is included in the FY17 budget. The cost of design and construction administration services is $338,305.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the Mayor to execute a Contract for Professional Services with KLJ for $338,305 for engineering design and construction administration services.
