PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The ConocoPhillips Company - Billings Refinery notified the Police and Fire Departments that they are eligible for a $10,000 company grant. ConocoPhillips designated $4,000 to fund Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) training. The SRO's have attended several training opportunities with the assistance of funding such as this. ConocoPhillips designated $6,000 for the Fire Department. $2,000 will help form the Montana Fire Chiefs Association (MCFCA). The Fire Department has several employees who are assisting in forming this statewide association for all career and major municipal fire departments in the state. The remaining $4,000 will be used to help develop the Incident Command Training Center at Fire Station One.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may:
- Approve the application submittal and finalization of the 2010 ConocoPhillips Company Grant, or
- Do not approve the application submittal and finalization of the 2010 ConocoPhillips Company Grant.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There will be no City match required for this grant. This grant will allow for SRO training that may not be funded through the regular City budget as well as development of the MCFCA and the Incident Command Training Center at Fire Station One.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that City Council approve the submittal of the 2010 ConocoPhillips Company Grant application and acceptance of the grant award in the amount of $10,000, to be split $4,000 to the Police Department and $6,000 to the Fire Department, when the award is approved.
