City election ward boundaries must be adjusted to conform to city limit amendments resulting from annexation of property into the City. The City Council approved the annexation of property owned by Richard and Mae Sartorie (Annexation #17-02) on July 10, 2017. The subject property is about 5.4 acres in size and described as Tract 2B-2 of Amended Tract 2B, Corrected C/S 840, Second Amended. The property is located west of Hawthorne Lane and north of Kyhl Lane in the Billings Heights. This requires a change in the boundaries of Ward II. Two readings are required for this action. The first reading of the ordinance is scheduled for August 14, 2017 along with a public hearing, and the second reading is scheduled for August 28.

City Council may approve or not approve the ordinance to amend the boundaries of Ward II on first reading.

• Approving the ordinance will modify the boundaries of Ward II to include the property owned by Richard and Mae Sartorie.
• Not approving the ordinance will not modify the boundaries of Ward II and create a problem where property inside the City Limits is not within one of the City Ward Boundaries.

There is no budget/financial impact from this action.

Staff recommends that the City Council hold a public hearing and approve this ordinance on first reading, adding recently annexed property to Ward II.
