Bid Award - Dozer for the Billings Regional Landfill for the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department

PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

Bids were received on November 28, 2017 to purchase a new dozer for the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department. Staff advertised for sealed bids on November 17 and November 24, 2017.  This purchase will replace an existing dozer that is included in the FY 2018 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP) and the FY 2018 budget for the Solid Waste Division.  The City received 2 bids from Tractor and Equipment Company and RDO Equipment Company. RDO had the lowest bid.
 

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

City Council may:
  • Approve purchasing the new dozer from RDO Equipment Company or;
  • Disapprove the purchase and reject all bids.  If the new dozer is not purchased, the Public Works Department will be required to continue using the existing unit that is at or near the end of its useful life.  Maintenance costs will increase and reliability will decrease.

RECOMMENDATION

 Staff recommends that Council award the contract for a new dozer to RDO Equipment Company in the amount of $429,966 that includes the trade-in for the existing dozer ( unit #0253) and a three-year warranty and maintenance plan.
