PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

City election ward boundaries must be adjusted to conform to city limit amendments resulting from annexation of property into the City. The City Council approved the annexation of property owned by L.B. Stone Properties Group, LLC (Annexation #17-01) on January 22, 2018. The subject property is about 5 acres and is located at 301 Orchard Lane. The property is described as the N1/2, SW1/4, SW1/4, NE1/4 of said Section 9 T.1S., R.26E., P.M.M., being wholly surrounded on the north by Tract 2, of Certificate of Survey No. 1954, on the east by Kissee Subdivision, on the South by Tracts A and B, of Certificate of Survey No. 1938, and on the west by Al’s Subdivision, First Filing. This annexation requires a change in the boundaries of Ward III. Two readings are required for this action. The first reading of the ordinance was approved by City Council on February 12, 2018, along with a public hearing.

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

City Council may approve or not approve the ordinance to amend the boundaries of Ward III on second reading.
  • Approving the ordinance will modify the boundaries of Ward III to include the property owned by L.B. Stone Properties Group, LLC.
  • Not approving the ordinance will not modify the boundaries of Ward III, and create a problem where property inside the City Limits is not within one of the City Ward Boundaries.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

There is no budget/financial impact from this action.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve this ordinance on second reading, adding recently annexed property to Ward III.
