PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

The City of Billings owns Lot 23-A of Sunny Cove Fruit Farms Subdivision located in the southwest corner of the intersection of 62nd Street W. & Rimrock Road. In advance of the roundabout that will be constructed at this intersection, staff recommends dedicating the required right-of-way by doing an exempt plat. In addition to the roundabout requiring extra right-of-way, SID 1401 Molt Road turn lane project, located  north of Rimrock Road, requires Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative to relocate existing power poles on the west side of the road. The cooperative is requesting permission to install underground power instead of relocating the poles.  The installation will require additional right-of-way for equipment in the southwest corner of 62nd Street W. & Rimrock Road, and this exempt plat will provide the area for that purpose.

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

City Council may:
  • Approve Amended Plat of Lot 23-A of Sunny Cove Fruit Farms, or;
  • Disapprove Amended Plat of Lot 23-A of Sunny Cove Fruit Farms. If the amended plat is not accepted, the turn lane project will be delayed.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

There is not a significant financial impact associated with the approval of this plat.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the Amended Plat of Lot 23-A of Sunny Cove Fruit Farms.
