PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

Street/Traffic Division for the Public Works Department received 2 bids for painting pavement markings for the 10 roundabouts specified in the bid.  These pavement markings will be painted in epoxy paint and will also include grinding/cleaning markings prior to re-striping.  The Public Works Department advertised in the Yellowstone County News on August 31 & September 7, 2018 and ope ed bids on September 11, 2018.

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

City Council may:
  • Approve the bid for the painting and striping of the 10 roundabouts, or;
  • Disapprove the bid for the painting and striping of the 10 roundabouts.  Eventually the striping will fade and be unrecognizable.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The cost for the striping and road markings for the 10 roundabouts is an approved supplemental budget request for the FY19 budget for the Street/Traffic Division.  2 suppliers responded for the request for bids.  Bidding results are as follows:

Bidders Name Total Bid Price
Streamline Markings, Inc $  98,041.70
Highmark Traffic $195,000.00

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the council accepts the low bid for striping and road markings for $98,041.70 from Streamline Markings, Inc.
