Montana Marathon requests partial and full street closures for its annual marathon event on Sunday, September 19, 2010, from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. The marathon route begins on Molt Road to Buffalo Trail, out and back on Buffalo Trail onto Molt Road, left on 62nd St., then west onto Sam Snead Trail to Walter Hagen, then onto 54th St.West, left on Rimrock, right on 46th Street West, left on Rangeview Drive, left on 38th Street West (partial street closure), right on Poly Drive, right on Patricia Lane, left on Colton, right on 17th Street West, left on Parkhill Drive to Virginia, right on 3rd Street West, and finish at Daylis Stadium. The kid's run will run around Pioneer Park beginning and ending at the stadium. A full street closure on 3rd Street West from 6:00 am to 12:00 noon is requested for the finish line.

Recommended conditions of approval include Montana Marathon:
1. Contact all businesses and making them aware of the event as soon as possible
2. Clean the area to be used and provide and empty waste cans
3. Notify all emergency facilities, bus lines, and media at least two weeks in advance of the event
4. Provide certificate of insurance with required liability amounts naming the City of Billings as additional insured
5. Provide and install adequate traffic barricades and signs directing motorists around closure
6. All Course guards (flaggers) shall wear safety vests and use approved STOP/SLOW paddles

The Council may:
• Approve run route and street closure for the event; or
• Deny the run route and street closure

There are no costs to the City of Billings other than administrative time to process permit. Traffic control and litter removal are to be paid for by the event sponsors.

Staff recommends that Council approve the closure and run route described above for the Annual Montana Marathon.
