PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The playground at Rose Park has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. In the FY18 budget, Council approved $270,000 for the playground replacement. On February 26, 2018 Council approved a resolution allowing staff to apply for a Land Water Conservation (LWCF) Grant for additional improvements to the playground. On May 21, 2018, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) notified the Parks and Recreation Department of tentative approval of our grant application in the amount of $150,000. On June 24, 2019, Montana FWP notified the Parks and Recreation Department of the grant award. In order to receive the grant funding, the City must enter into an agreement with the State of Montana, see agreement attached. With this grant the Rose Park Playground Replacement project will have a total funding of $420,000.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may:
- Approve the agreement between the City and Montana FWP to receive the grant funds in the amount of $150,000, or;
- Disapprove the agreement and provide staff with additional guidance.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funding for the Rose Park Playground improvements will come from $270,000 as approved in the FY18 budget and $150,000 from the LWCF grant funds, for a total of $420,000. There will be no additional impacts to the City.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the agreement for the LWCF grant fund and enter into that agreement with the State of Montana.
