PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Friends of Billings Dog Parks is a group of volunteers that has been in existence since 2008. Their mission has been to raise funds to build dog parks in Billings. This group is responsible for raising all the funds to construct the dog park in the Heights (dedicated in 2011). The Friends of Billings Dog Parks would like to make a significant donation in the amount of $80,000.00 to provide perimeter fencing and two drinking fountains as part of the development of the dog Park at Centennial Park. Some of their funding was held by the Parks, Recreation and Preservation Foundation who have been instrumental as a depository for donors to make contributions.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may:
- Approve the donation for $80,000.00 from the Friends of Billings Dog Parks for development of the dog park at Centennial Park, or;
- Disapprove the donation and provide additional guidance to staff.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There will be no financial impact to the City. By approving this donation, a budget amendment will be required to establish the spending authority. The budget amendment will be a part of the FY20 first quarter budget amendments.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council accept this very generous donation from the Friends of Billings Dog Parks in the amount of $80,000 to provide for the installation of the perimeter fencing and two drinking fountains as part of the development of the dog park at Centennial Park.
