PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
W.O. 20-38, Central Avenue & Broadwater Avenue Signal Conduit, is a project to upgrade the existing traffic signal systems at various intersections. During design of this project, it was determined that the original locations of the existing traffic signal poles and cabinet at the intersection of Broadwater Avenue & 14th Street West was installed on private property decades ago during initial construction. Accordingly, the City has spoken with the property owners at 1313 and 1425 Broadwater Avenue, and they are agreeable to granting the City the ability to perpetually maintain the signal poles and cabinets through an easement. The owners agreed to grant the easements to the City at no cost.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may :
- Approve the acquisition of traffic signal easements at 1313 and 1425 Broadwater Avenue; or,
- Do not approve the acquisition of traffic signal easements and the City will not have legal access to maintain the traffic signals. The traffic signal poles and cabinets will be remain on private property.
FISCAL EFFECTS
There is no cost for the City to acquire the easements.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the acquisition of the traffic signal easements to 1313 and 1425 Broadwater Avenue.
