RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that City Council approve the City-County Special Investigations Unit (CCSIU) Amendment to Agreement with Yellowstone County to increase the City and the County's petty cash fund contribution from $6,000 to $9,000 each.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
In order to continue operations, the CCSIU Agreement with Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) must be approved each calendar year. City Council approved the agreement at the January 13, 2020 meeting. The Billings Police Department (BPD) and the YCSO wishes to amend the original agreement to increase petty cash funds from $6,000 to $9,000 each. Additional funds are needed due to an increase in cost of illegal drugs and the increased frequency of drug transactions.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve the Amendment to Agreement for the City-County Special Investigation Unit or;
- Disapprove the Amendment to Agreement for the City-County Special Investigation Unit which diminishes the effectiveness of drug operations.
FISCAL EFFECTS
There is no additional financial impact to the City since the funds are budgeted for in Fund 718 - Drug Forfeitures and Fines.
