RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that City Council acknowledge that work order assessments will be higher than the original resolution ordering improvements identified in Resolution 21-10935 passed on March 22, 2021 for WO 20-12, South 32nd Street West reconstruction project.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
WO 20-12 South 32nd Street West consists of reconstructing South 32nd Street West between King Avenue West and Gabel Road. It will be widened to a 3-lane street including two travel lanes and a two-way-left-turn-lane. Other improvements include a trail connection from King Avenue West south to Transtech Way on the west side and sidewalk on the east side. Streetlights will be added between King Ave West and Transtech Way. The project will also include striping improvements on South 32nd Street West from King Avenue north to Monad Road and sidewalk widening on the west side, also from King Avenue to Monad Road.
Council approved the original resolution ordering improvements on March 22, 2021. Staff opened bids on April 13 and the low bid unit costs were higher than originally estimated and therefore work order assessments will also increase. This Council agenda item is intended to officially acknowledge the cost increase.

ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve and acknowledge there will be an increase to work order assessments; or,
- Not approve and acknowledge increase to work order assessments. If City Council does not accept and acknowledge the increase to work order assessments, the City will be required to cover the increased cost on the assessments.
FISCAL EFFECTS
The original direct property assessments approved by Council was $900,000 and with the increase in bid unit costs, the total bond sale amount including direct assessments will increase by $60,000 to $960,000.
