PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
At their October 21, 2010, meeting, the Yellowstone County DUI Task Force voted to approve up to $5,000 to the Billings Police Department to reimburse per diem and other minor costs associated with sending 2 officers to the Drugged Driver Recognition Expert (DDRE) training. The Task Force believes that supporting this project is very much in line with their mission of enforcing DUI laws within our community. The majority of this training is being funded through a grant with the Department of Transportation. Training consists of 2 weeks schooling in Missoula and one week of practical experience in Maricopa County, Arizona (Phoenix). DDRE training will train officers in determining if a person is under the influence of drugs versus alcohol. Staff is requesting City Council approve the reimbursement of up to $5,000 from the Yellowstone County DUI Task Force for training of 2 officers to become Drugged Driver Recognition Experts.
