RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that City Council accept the Traffic Signal and Sidewalk Easements from Sharon J Quast Trust, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, and Power of Abundant Recovery Ministries.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
W.O. 22-29, 24th Street West Signal Conduit Upgrades, is a project to upgrade traffic signal equipment at various intersections along 24th Street West in order to provide better control and operation of signals for improved traffic flow. During the design of the project, staff determined that some of the existing traffic signal equipment and sidewalk at the intersection of 24th Street West & Lewis Avenue was installed on private property when it was originally constructed. Accordingly, staff communicated with the property owners on the impacted intersection corners, and the landowners are agreeable to grant the City the ability to perpetually maintain the equipment and sidewalk through an easement. Three separate easements with three landowners are included and attached with this memo.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve accepting the traffic signal and sidewalk easements; or,
- Not approve the easements. If not approved, the City will not have legal access to maintain the traffic signals or sidewalk. The signal equipment and sidewalk will remain on private property.
FISCAL EFFECTS
There is no cost to the City for acceptance of the easements.
