Approve the award of Invitation for Bids (IFB) No. 13-34-SHF-03 to Canyon Building and Design, LLC for the construction of a Firing Range for the Sheriff’s Office in the amount of $704,936.
Background:
IFB No. 13-44-SHF-03 was released on April 17, 2013. The bid was advertised in the Arizona Range News on April 17 & 24, 2013 and posted on the County website. Bid notices were mailed to 35 contractors and two plan rooms were notified of the project. A pre-bid meeting/job walk was held on April 25, 2013. The bid consisted of a base bid and four add alternates. The add alternates consisted of:
• Range House
• Utility Range
• Transport of excavated material to County Pit
• Transport of excavated material to location determined by contractor
The Sheriff has requested an award of the base bid only due to availability of funding.
Three bids were received prior to the bid closing date and time of June 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. A bid tabulation is attached.

Execute contract. Obtain bonds and insurance. Issue Notice to Proceed. Conduct pre-construction conference. Monitor contract performance and make progress payments. Explore alternative solution to building the range house.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Sheriff’s Department will not have a firing range.
