Approve City of Tucson High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Grant Agreement HT-12-2238 with a term of January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013 and extension to January 31, 2014 providing a total of $3,000 in overtime expenses.
Background:
The Sheriff's Office has two Deputies assigned to SAMIT which is a HIDTA funded task force. HIDTA has a subdivision of Domestic Highway Enforcement (DHE). The goal of DHE is to locate and apprehend individuals who smuggle narcotics and currency obtained from narcotics activities. DHE operations can be conducted on any roadway within Cochise County
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If the DHE grant is approved the Sheriff's Office will be able to conduct multiple DHE operations within Cochise County.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If the DHE grant is not approved the Sheriff's Office will not be able to conduct any DHE operations. This will mean the Sheriff's Office will have to pay for the funding from our current fiscal budget if a Highway interdiction operation is conducted.
