Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve the grant award from The Cochise Water Project to the Flood Control District for a rainwater harvesting project at Melody Lane, in the amount of $25,000, and authorize the chairman to sign.

Background:

The Melody Lane Complex was constructed in 2004 with minimal landscape on the south side of BOS complex, very poor drainage and no plan for rainwater harvesting. This has caused repeated flooding, erosion, sedimentation on the parking lot and the waste of an opportunity to put the roof runoff to beneficial use.

Utilizing the Community Development engineering, survey and landscape architecture experience, we will design and install rainwater harvesting equipment to create an educational demonstration garden that will address the above issues.  The estimated value of the County match for design, construction, labor and incidentials is $15,000.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Survey and preliminary design is complete. Final design will be completed in January/February and construction completed prior to summer monsoons.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

The $25,000 grant award will not be available for rainwater harvesting, flood and erosion control.
