Background:

This agreement is a continuing annual agreement between Cochise County and the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Wildlife Services.  This agreement provides for a Wildlife Specialist to be assigned to Cochise County to manage damage caused by wild and feral animals to livestock, agriculture commodities and the public health.  The Wildlife Specialist works with the Sheriff's Office Animal Control Officers.  The total cost of the position and equipment to Cochise County is $35,743.  This is a slight increase of $885.00 over the previous year.  The remainder of costs related to this position to be borne by USDA.  This agreement has been budgeted from the General Fund for the past several years.  This agreement has been approved as to form by Lauri Owens, Civil Deputy from the County Attorney's Office.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Continue with the services as provided to mitigate predators and health issues related to animals within the county.
