Agenda Item Text:
Approve a revision to the Library District's Internet and Wireless Use Policy.
Background:
The Library District's existing Internet and Wireless Use Policy was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in January, 2011.
It specified that the Library District would use filtering or blocking software on public computers with access to the internet, but that the wireless internet provided by the library would not be filtered. The policy update specifies that both types of internet access will be filtered. This change will make the policy clear and consistent.
The other change is that the new policy reserves the right to block any user or device found to be in violation of library policy or any applicable laws. The existing policy only indicates that the library may terminate wireless internet sessions under those circumstances.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The Library District will implement the new policy at all library branches.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The Library District will retain the 2011 policy.
