Agenda Item Text:

Approve a revision of the Library District's Standards of Acceptable Behavior policy.

Background:

The Library District's current Standards of Acceptable Behavior policy was approved by the Board of Supervisors in March, 2004, and it is severely outdated.  At least one clause, banning guns from the premises, is no longer enforceable at most library branches.  The revised policy addresses that change and includes updated language regarding unattended children, service animals, and cell phone use.

Sunizona's Alice Woods Library is housed on the grounds of Ash Creek School.  The school prohibits weapons, so the branch library policy must reflect that.  The second draft policy is for the Sunizona branch, and includes the clause prohibiting weapons.  It is otherwise identical to the draft policy for the other library branches.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

The Library District will post and implement the new policies at all library branches.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

The Library District will retain the 2004 Standards of Acceptable Behavior policy, which is out of date.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
