Approve Contract Addendum #1 with Alliance Work Partners to provide traumatic event counseling to peace officers and public safety employees pursuant to A.R.S. sections 38-672 and 38-673.
Background:
Pursuant to A.R.S. sections 38-672 and 38-673, Cochise County is required to provide traumatic event counseling to peace officers and public safety officers as those terms are defined in statute. "Traumatic event" is defined in the statutes to include such things as witnessing the death or maiming of a human being; being involved in the investigation of a dangerous crime against children; requiring rescue in the line of duty; witnessing the death of another peace officer; and investigating the drowning of a child. Peace officers may receive up to 36 counseling sessions and public safety employees may receive up to 12 counseling sessions if certain criteria is met. The cost of these sessions are to be paid by the County. Alliance Work Partners, the County's current employee assistance program provider, currently offers all county employees 3 counseling sessions at no cost. Pursuant to the proposed contract, AWP will provide the remaining counseling sessions required under the above statutes at a cost of $200 per session.
