Approve Intergovernmental Agreement with the Palominas School District to allow public access to, and share maintenance for, current and future proposed multi-use trail on the Palominas Recharge property, effective May 19, 2020.
Background:
On March 10, 2020, the Palominas School Board signed an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) to allow public access from the school’s property to a future proposed trail on the County’s Palominas recharge property north and west of the Palominas Elementary School. The IGA also outlines shared responsibilities for maintenance of the proposed multi-use trail and trailhead as well as the County’s existing Palominas Walking Path east of the school. The IGA serves both the County and School District’s interests in providing safe access to County property for use by the public including the school’s cross-country track team as well as the community’s recreational and equestrian constituencies.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Execute Agreement and move forward with future trail design.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The County would be fully responsible for all maintenance of the current walking path on the east side of the Palominas Recharge Project and the proposed multi-use trail north and west of the school may not be constructed.
