Agenda Item Text:
Approve Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between Cochise County and Naco School District and the addition of one Position Control Number (PCN), allowing the Cochise County Sheriff to assign a full-time deputy as the Naco School Resource Officer (SRO), effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.
Background:
The Naco School District has secured a School Safety Program grant from the Arizona Department of Education to fund one (1) school resource officer for the Naco Schools. The program cost funded by the grant will not exceed $75,100 annually. This is a new program that will ensure a full-time law enforcement officer's presence on campus during school hours. The grant will cover the majority of the salary and EREs for the SRO. Any cost over the $75,100 will be absorbed by the Sheriff's Office and is estimated to be less than $20,000 annually.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The Sheriff's Office wil move forward with staffing the position in time for the school year.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The Naco School district will not have a SRO.
