Agenda Item Text:

Approve the Board of Supervisors District map (map with no changes or Scenario 1 changes) for presentation and public comment at the Redistricting Advisory Commission Public Hearings.

Background:

At the October 1, 2021 Redistricting Advisory Commission (RAC) meeting, the Commission directed staff to advance two options for the Commission to vote on advancing to the Public Hearings at its next meeting. The first map has no changes from the existing Board of Supervisors Districts. The second map, Scenario 1, makes various changes to the District boundaries as the Commission discussed at the October 1, 2021 meeting, including shifting Fort Huachuca into District 1 and making adjustments to Districts 2 and 3 to ensure that population requirements are met.

In order to preserve the one person, one vote requirement in the Constitution, districts must have an equal population with no more than 10% difference.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

The map that the Commission approves will be advanced to the Public Hearings.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

None.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
