Agenda Item Text:
Adopt Resolution 22-03 establishing the elections precincts for Cochise County and defining their boundaries, effective March 8, 2022.
Background:
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-411, the Board of Supervisors of each county shall on or before December 1 of each year preceding the year of a general election, by an order, establish a convenient number of election precincts in the county and define the boundaries thereof. The Board of Supervisors approved the precincts on November 30, 2021, and on December 14, 2021, adopted Resolution 21-25, establishing 49 elections precincts.
In light of the Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) redistricting of Congressional and Legislative lines, it is necessary to approve changes to the elections precincts. The result is that Cochise County will now have 55 election precincts. Precincts 50-53 are in populated areas in Palominas, Bisbee and Douglas. Precinct 54 is near Parker Canyon Lake. Precinct 55 is in the Coronado National Forest (Huachuca Mountains) and has zero population.
