Agenda Item Text:
Approve Authorization Letter to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office to represent Cochise County in all tax appeal litigation of centrally assessed property for tax years 2023 and 2024.
Background:
The Arizona Department of Revenue is responsible for the valuation of centrally assessed property and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office maintains the expertise to handle these types of tax appeals.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Once approved by the Board, the County Attorney’s Office will send an authorization letter to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The County Attorney’s office will be required to defend the valuations on these tax appeals, of which the evaluations were done by Arizona State Department of Revenue, and not by the Cochise County Assessor.
