WORKSESSIONS
- R 23-04 (Agritourism) Work session regarding a staff-initiated amendment to the Cochise County Zoning Regulations, Sections 2.03, 2.15, 2.18, 2.42, and 2.48
Background:
Agricultural tourism, often referred to as agritourism, is a type of tourism that involves visitors engaging in various activities and experiences related to agricultural or rural life. It is a form of niche tourism that focuses on the interaction between tourists and agricultural activities, providing them with opportunities to learn about, participate in, or enjoy the rural lifestyle and the agricultural environment. Staff recommends that agritourism will be allowed as a permitted use in rural zoning and a Special Use in residential zoning on agriculturally-exempt (Ag. Exempt) property, meeting the definition of "Agriculture General" per Article 2.03 Definitions of the Cochise County Zoning Regulations. Applicants will need to meet additional development standards and application requirements. During the January meeting, staff will provide an overview of the recommended changes to the Zoning Regulations to get commission feedback. Staff will use this feedback to finalize amendment recommendations.
