Background:
Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) is a nationwide initiative that brings together federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement officials, prosecutors, community-based partners, and other stakeholders to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in a community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. PSN is coordinated by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices in the 94 federal judicial districts throughout the 50 states and U.S. territories. The grant provides $157,040 for equipment and $85,419 for non-capital equipment. Non-capital equipment includes: BRASSTRAX Acquisition Station, Fingerprint Scanner, PAG800 Stereo Zoom Microscope, Cartridge Case Training Kit, Color Printer, Managed Switch. This agreement is from September 19, 2024, to September 30, 2025. The NIBIN program will enhance criminal investigations involving firearms for all agencies in Cochise County, including Graham and Greenlee counties.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office will coordinate through the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission to utilize the authorized funds.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
