Agenda Item Text:
Approve Memorandum of Understanding supporting the establishment of the Sulphur Springs Water Alliance.
Background:
The Sulphur Springs Water Alliance (SSWA) is the result of an Exploratory Scenario Planning (XSP) for Water Resilient Agriculture and the health of the watershed, workshop in September of 2023 done by The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, its Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy, and Arizona State University. The XSP worked with officials, residents, business and agricultural interest from the Willcox and Douglas basins exploring the impacts of changes in water availability. SSWA is committed to working on water issues in the Sulphur Springs Valley in a collaborative way for the benefit of all concerned.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Route the MOU and get signatures from entities involved with the establishment of the SSWA.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Cochise County would not be a partner in the SSWA.
