Approve amendments to Human Resources Policy 2236 Leave of Absence Without Pay.

Background:

Policy 2236 Leave of Absence Without Pay was originally approved on August 8, 2023. Since the original approval, Human Resources has identified areas requiring amendment. Amendments include the addition of an exception to the requirement to use all leave by employees on Military Leave and are covered by the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). In addition, how benefits during a leave of absence without pay are handled. Specifically contributions to retirement accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts.

Post on website and inform all employees. 

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Following the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), federal law, would continue to be required, as well as benefits contributions due to tax law. The policy would not provide accurate information for our employees,
