Background:
The Cochise County Board of Supervisors recognizes the importance of maintaining secure and efficient election processes to uphold public confidence in the democratic system. Under current Arizona law, mail-in ballots must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, which can create logistical challenges due to late-arriving ballots. The proposed legislation seeks to amend the law by setting an earlier deadline of 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before Election Day, allowing election officials additional time to process ballots, reduce delays, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of results.
This resolution affirms the Board's support for the proposed legislation and directs the Clerk of the Board to communicate this position to state officials and stakeholders.
