Approve an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the Cochise County Library District and Ash Creek Unified School District No. 53, for the continued operation of a library district branch located at Ash Creek Elementary School, effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029.

Background:

The Cochise County Library District has operated a branch library at Ash Creek Elementary School since the 1978 / 79 school year.  The branch serves as a joint school and public library. 

The current agreement was adopted in 2021.  The only significant change from prior versions was the term of the agreement, which expires after four years rather than renewing automatically.  The 2021 agreement is set to expire June 30, 2025, and the Library District and the School District would like to adopt a new agreement for the next four years.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

The Library District will continue to operate the Alice Woods Library at Ash Creek School through June 30, 2029.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

The Library District will not have a current agreement for the operation of the branch library.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

If approved, this IGA requires a signature from the Chair of the BOS.  Please return three originals to the Library District.  Library District staff will coordinate with Ash Creek Unified School District No. 53 so that the School District can sign the agreement.  The Library District and the School District will each retain a fully executed agreement.
