Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve Grant Agreement DC-26-003 between Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) Drug, Gang and Violent Crime Control and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, to fund the Special Operations Division's overtime and Employee-Related Expenses (EREs) related to its narcotics and smuggling investigations, in the amount of $140,684.63, effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

Background:

This ACJC grant has been utilized for many years to assist in combating the sale of illegal narcotics, gangs and violent crime and to conduct operations to counteract smuggling and trafficking activity throughout Cochise County and the State of Arizona. The funding is restricted for use under the Special Operations Division for these specific functions.  Funding for this grant is $67,528.62 in federal funds, $37,984.85 in state funds, and $35,171.16 in County matching funds.  The County matching funds source has been identified and is included in the FY26 budget proposal.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If approved, the Sheriff's Office will continue their investigations into narcotics dealers, gangs and incidents of violent crimes and continue to grow their counter-smuggling investigations.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

If not approved, this will hinder our ability to investigate the sale of narcotics, gangs, violent crimes and smuggling throughout Cochise County, allowing criminal organizations to gain a stronger foothold in the county.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

The approved grant needs to be DocuSigned and forwarded to the Criminal Justice Commission and a copy forwarded to the Sheriff's Office.
