Approve the Crime Victim Compensation Grant Agreement VC-26-002 between the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission and the Cochise County Attorney's Office, in the amount of $141,014, effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
Background:
The award amount of $141,014.00 is to be used by the Cochise County Attorney’s Victim Compensation Program to provide crime victims within Cochise County compensation for injuries and losses received because of a crime. The allocation of state funding to the Cochise County Attorney’s Office compensation program includes $33,356.00 to cover administration costs of the program and $2,675.00 for travel expenses in accordance with the budget in the grant agreement. Fiscal Impact & Funding Sources: There is no transfer-in from any county account. This fund is fully grant monies. This contract no longer includes fringe benefits as in previous years. CJEF (Criminal Justice Enhancement Funds) will cover fringe benefits.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Once approved by the Board, the Department will forward the paperwork to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission for their final approval, signature and funding.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
This is a mandated service and Cochise County would be responsible. Also, victims in Cochise County would not receive compensation.
