Background:
This resolution expresses the Board of Supervisors’ formal opposition to the current implementation of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Mexican Gray Wolf Reintroduction Program under the Endangered Species Act. Citing significant economic harm to local ranchers, increased livestock predation, and insufficient compensation and oversight, the resolution calls for immediate reform, enhanced state authority, and recognition of local impacts. It includes requests for federal and state agencies to revise operating procedures, expand compensation programs, improve enforcement presence, and engage in cooperative management. The resolution also designates the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office as the lead agency for incident reporting and oversight, and directs preparation of an annual report on wolf-related activity in the county.
