Agenda Item Text:
Consider Removal of Commissioner Young from the Planning and Zoning Commission—Hearing and Possible Action.
Background:
The Planning & Zoning Commission consists of nine members, three from each Board of Supervisor District. Each member is nominated by the County Supervisor for that District. Each member residing within the District. Members of the Planning & Zoning Commission serve staggered four-year terms. Pursuant to the Commission by-laws, a member may be removed by the Board for neglect of duty, inefficiency, or misconduct in office. As of August 14, 2025, Commissioner Albert Young has exceeded this threshold by missing 5 regular meetings during the past 12 months. The Commission Chair is required to notify the Board of Supervisors when such absences occur. Development Services, which serves as staff to the commission, is notifying the board on her behalf.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If the board votes to remove Commissioner Young from the Planning and Zoning Commission, Development Services will retain a record of the action. The seat will be declared vacant.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Commissioner Young will remain on the Planning and Zoning Commission. There will be no vacancy unless the board subsequently determines neglect of duty, inefficiency, or misconduct in office or until his term expires.
