Approve renewal of license plates used by the Cochise County Sheriff's Office for undercover and covert operations.
Background:
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office uses license plates which are not marked as government plates to conduct investigations and further our public safety mission. The AZ Department of Transportation requires annual approval from the board of supervisors to participate in this program.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Once approved, the Sheriff's Office will submit it to ADOT to continue our participation in the program.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Using government plates to conduct surveillance and other covert operations will create an officer safety issue and greatly diminish our ability to conduct successful investigations.
